Model Railroading in 1905

The Cascade Western Rail Road represents a slice of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa as it might have existed in September of 1905.

The new power for the road. The Bachmann low-boilered 4-6-0. Modifications include replacing the headlight. Removing the generator, bell and power reverse. A new bell is installed between the domes. The Valve gear is removed and replaced with Stephenson’s. Square counter weights are overlaid on the originals. The tender has a rear coal sheet added.

Rolling Stock: A combination of MDC, La Belle, Central Valley, Westerfield kits and several scratch built items. More to follow.

Cascade Western Expansion

Winter 2007/8

4 projects are in the works for this winter.

Main Line expansion - added the town of Walker and 40 feet of main line. The old wye at Randalia has been revised.

Steven Center yard expansion - one grain elevator has been moved and the yard expanded from 3 tracks to 5 tracks.

St Paul road expansion - The CM&StP is expanding east. A new connection at South Steven Center will lead to two new staging tracks the represent McGregor, Iowa

Coates will be getting a turntable.
